Idea I just had for KI: what if they put a survey in the launcher directed at max level pirates?
Basically, my idea is that, maybe for a week, they could leave a survey in the game’s launcher directed towards max level players, asking something to the effect of “would you renew your membership to play new story content?”
Now, I have 0 idea how many people currently, actively, play this game. I’m sure KI has a way of seeing that easily; however, the number of online players at any given time isn’t necessarily indicative of the number of players that would buy zones or renew memberships. I’m sure the number of active, MAX level players isn’t huge by MMO standards. But, if they put up a survey like this, and, say, got 10k-20k people checking the box that says ‘yeah, we would’ or whatever (being optimistic about the number of max level players, I’m sure plenty of people are max level and haven’t logged in in years, so I’m counting them in this too), surely that would be enough to get the ball rolling, right? $10 from each of those players guaranteed adds up.
No idea how much it’d cost or how long it would take to make even a 5-level [Insert world] Part 1 usually, but if it’s considerably less than $100k, maybe this would be a good motivator..? Factoring in the ability to reuse / repurpose the many already existing NPC and area assets, it’s probably considerably cheaper and quicker than creating an entirely new world from the ground up.
Now that I’m typing this out it seems like less of an amazing idea than it did in my head... But, I just think allowing them to see a number indicating just how many people would throw $10 at them to see what happens next might be a more effective way to convince them to continue than it would to make a Facebook group or something to ‘revive Pirate101’. If they can get a guess about at LEAST how much money they’d make, maybe that’d be enough for the higher ups to at least discuss the POSSIBILITY of continuing the story.
I think the only way that the game continues beyond level 70 is if KingsIsle feels encouraged to at least have a conversation about adding more story content to the game. I don’t think one day they’d just go ‘yeah, let’s do it!’. Hell, even if somehow THIRTY thousand people signed this survey, and the amount earned from 30,000 memberships would be a lot more than the cost of developing the game, they could still go ‘nah’ after thinking it over. But at least it’d make them reconsider things a little, and I think that’s the best shot we have at seeing what happens next. The goal is for them to talk about it again, because it seems like they haven’t talked about it for a long time.
Edit: This idea seems to have been received well! I’m glad! That being said, anyone have any idea of the best way that I can get this idea to KingsIsle? A post on the official Pirate101 forum seems like it probably wouldn’t get noticed. Is there a way I can contact someone directly about it..? And maybe I can try to extend the time that the survey runs for (maybe 2 weeks..?), because I’m sure there are lots of old players who would be happy to come back for more content but also would be completely clueless to the possibility that they might make more.
If it really has been 3 whole years since level 70 was introduced, who knows how many thousands of dedicated players left, and how many of those who stuck around left when they saw the 2019 post saying they had ‘no plans’ for the future of the game. The first step would be getting them to make a survey like this, and the second step would be getting the word out to veteran players that there’s potentially a real chance to revive the game provided they open up the launcher and check a box. I wouldn’t know how to do that but I’m sure other people who want to revive the game do through social media or whatever.
