Linux on Mac
All about running linux on Apple/Mac hardware, both PPC and Intel based. How to's, requests for help, news, you name it!
How do you manage Ubuntu laptops?
I'm looking for a more in depth answer than "I'm using puppet" or "I'm using chef"
We've had a request to handle a number of Ubuntu machines and need to find a solution.
Landscape is an option, but it is extremely expensive, and doesn't seem like it does a whole lot beyond pushing patches. It weirdly doesn't support LDAP for admin logons either wanting to just use email accounts for usernames which is strange and might not meet our security models.
Most of the tools I've come across tend to be RHEL/CentOS focused.
What I'm most interested in is reporting on package versions and handling updates, having machines check in periodically so we know they're still there, pushing settings and having some kind of web dashboard to keep track of everything.
I'm hoping for some in depth answers here. What tools do you use and HOW do you use them?
