Guide: How to get Turbo and Borderless Windowed in Zero/Ao no Kiseki PC
EDIT: If you play online games, make sure Cheat Engine and AutoHotkey are not open when you play them. Having them open at the same time as the game can get you banned.
I see a lot of people put off by how Zero and Ao don't have turbo, however it's actually fairly easy to setup with the right tools. Ao has in-game turbo (I believe it's the shift key), however it only goes at 2x speed and doesn't give you much customization. You can also do speed up with the psp versions on an emulator, but that of course speeds up the music, and you probably don't want to hear Zero/Ao's god-tier soundtracks butchered.
Here's how to set it up:
- Download Cheat Engine here (don't let it install Winzip
7zip is better anyway)
- Open your Zero/Ao game
- Open Cheat Engine, and click here
- Select the game, and click open
- Go to Edit > Settings
Now there are three different ways of doing the next part, each will have varying success. Don't worry, this isn't as confusing as it looks - I just wanted to be thorough.
- The first one is: select Hotkeys, and click Speedhack speed (it doesn't matter which one). Then, click the hotkey box, enter the key you want to use for turbo, and set the speed to whatever you want (e.g. 3.000 is triple speed). Check 'Stop on release'. It should look something like this. Then click Ok, and check Enable Speedhack. Now when you push your hotkey, it should change the speed in there to what you entered earlier. When you release your hotkey, it should change the speed back to 1. It works? Great, you have turbo. It doesn't work? Try going back into the Hotkey settings, and experiment with other keys - from my experience, some don't work.
- The second one is: follow the first method until I say to check 'Stop on release' - leave this unchecked. Instead, click on a different Speedhack speed (e.g. if you picked 1, try 2, 3, 4 or 5), and enter another key. This key will be your 'stop turbo' key. Set the speed to 1 (again, leave 'Stop on release' unchecked), and click Ok. Check Enable Speedhack, and now try pushing both keys. The turbo key should set it to the speed you decided on. The other key should set it back to 1.
- The third one is: if you tried to do any of the other methods, make sure to reset the hotkey(s) you created with the 'clear' button. Select 'Toggle the speedhack', and enter the hotkey you want for turbo. Now click Ok, and tap (do not hold) your turbo key. A slider should appear - drag this slider up to the speed you want for turbo. Now every time you tap your turbo key (not hold, just tap it) you should toggle between turbo and normal speed. If you're using Windows, you might get annoying sound effects from this - just right click on your volume icon, click 'Open Volume Mixer', and mute System Sounds.
If none of these work for you, feel free to ask for help in the comments.
Zero and Ao have a broken fullscreen option unfortunately, so you might be forced to use windowed mode. In that case, you can setup borderless.
Option 1: The most popular method, Borderless Gaming. You can buy it on Steam
, or download an older version from Github for free
Option 2: Personally I don't like to use a full application, instead I prefer hotkeys. Download Autohotkey
, then create a new notepad document. You can copy and paste my code into it
. Save this as .ahk, and open it - now when you push both 'Ctrl' keys together, it will turn the window you have opened into borderless. Push them again to undo that. You can change the shortcut to something else if you want, just edit the notepad document and change 'LControl & RControl' to the keys you want (here is a list of keys).
