Separate thread from "the rules of Zelle" post https://www.reddit.com/zelle/comments/jza33b/compiling_and_verifying_the_rules_of_zelle
because this is pretty complex may need some extended discussion.
Note this topic is irrelevant to #bankZelle, where you use Zelle via a "partner bank" website UI or app.
Only #appZelle, using Zelle's standalone app (used to be ClearXchange) for linking to non-partner financial institutions' debit cards.
I will below be stating "as if factual" my understandings, if any qualifications / corrections or feedback are required please speak up! _________
Phone numbers that show up in the carrier databases as type "VoIP"
for example Google Voice, or other "over the top" software-based telephony systems, apps etc
do not "fully" work with the Zelle app.
In the sense that you can
download the app and create a new Zelle profile, register
such a number from any device even with no SIM present, associate that number with a debit card.
And people can send
inbound transfers to that number, which immediately get deposited to the account tied to that profile.
But then afterwards, you will never be allowed to login to the app, so you will not be able to send
outbound transfers from
a non-partner account, and
cannot update yourself the account tied to that phone number, maybe possible to get #appZelle customer service to do so? _________
Note that if that phone number has ever been tied to a different Zelle profile, the inbound transfer may bounce back.
Just call into #appZelle CS (tel:+18668393488) and confirm the bank, card CVV etc and ask them to delete your number from any other Zelle profiles in their system. _________
Please confirm if the above matches your understanding as well
